How to Best Care for Your Skin in 2020

As we move into a new year (hello 2020), I wanted to share with you four basic skin care steps you can take to create a healthy complexion!

(Yes, proper skin care goes beyond just washing and moisturizing!)

When done routinely with products designed to work together, the following four steps will provide you with a healthy, vibrant complexion you’ll feel confident in:

Cleanse. Cleansing your skin removes oil, dirt and makeup buildup from your day. 

Tone + Prep. This step helps to balance the pH of your skin after cleansing and also prepares your skin to be able to fully absorb your treatment in the next step. 

Treat. This step usually involves a serum designed to help target your specific concerns (acne, oil, dryness, blemishes, redness, uneven skin tone, pore size, lines and wrinkles, etc.). 

Protect + Hydrate. This step could involve a day cream, night cream or both. Protecting your skin from the everyday stress that it’s exposed to and keeping it properly hydrated will provided a long-term healthy, hydrated glow. 

Keep in mind that not all skincare products work for all skin types. Just because your girlfriend has good luck with a certain line doesn’t mean that you will! You have to find the right combination of products designed for your skin type and main skin concerns! 

When you are shopping for skincare products, the person helping you should be asking you what type of skin you have, what your current routine includes and what your main skin concerns are! Only then will they be able to get you into the right line of products!

Some other unrelated but related tips for healthy skin include:

Limit your sugar intake. Sugar is a highly inflammatory food and can disturb your skin. 

Drink water. This is pretty obvious, right? I know you don’t want your skin to look like the Sahara.

Sleep with a humidifier. Dry air leaches moisture from your skin. A humidifier helps to put moisture in the air which means less moisture leaching from your skin.

Exercise. By increasing blood flow, exercise helps to nourish skin cells by transporting oxygen to them. Increasing blood flow also helps to carry away waste products from skin cells! 

Smile. This makes everything better, right?
