Bode’s first birthday is on October 20th, but we celebrated early this weekend. I can’t believe how quickly his first year went by! The first 6 months were pretty much a blur, but even so, I can’t believe the transition he has made from a newborn into a little boy. Most nights, when I rock him to bed, I close my eyes, thank God for allowing me to be him mom, and savor all of the baby snuggles. I know in a few short years he may not want me to snuggle him like that–I will take it all in while I can. 🙂
I had so much fun planning his birthday party. We probably had a bigger party than necessary, but we love to entertain and you only turn one once, right?! I know he may remember it only by looking back on old pictures, but Cody and I will always remember it. I really wanted it to be special.
We decided to go with a barn and brunch theme. For games and activities, we let the kiddos decorate treat bags, played Pin the Tail on the Donkey, and had a piñata! We planned on potato sack races too but the weather had another plan!
For food, we served a variety of breakfast casseroles, mini muffins, and fruit. Instead of cake, we opted to have a donut bar. For the adults, we set up a Bloody Mary and mimosa bar. Doing brunch was an easy alternative to a traditional lunch or dinner type of meal.
We did let Bode have a smash cake–he loved it! I felt like a first birthday party wouldn’t be complete without one–smashing a donut wouldn’t quite be the same!
All in all, I would say the party was a success. Bode was smiling and giggling most of the time and I think the other kiddos and adults had fun too. I know Cody and I had a great day spending time with Bode and our loved ones.
Here are some of my favorite pictures from the day! Enjoy!
