Lemmmme’ tell ya–it is always fun to kick cancer in the freedomballs!
Cockopalooza is a fundraiser designed to help raise money for LOCAL children battling cancer.
The event originated in 2004 when Corey “Cocko” Cox was diagnosed with lymphatic leukemia. Corey went to Elkhart Central High School, the same high school my husband and a lot of our friends went to. The event started in a backyard and since has grown bigger every year. This year’s event was this past Saturday downtown Elkhart at Central Park/Civic Plaza. The location added a fun vibe to the event, the weather was absolutely gorgeous, and the event was packed with people enjoying themselves.
One of the main events is the Freedomball Tournament–a combination of wiffle ball, kick ball, and dodge ball. This is always a staple at Cockopalooza and people of all ages can play!
All of the kids enjoyed the bounce house, face painting station, and the “send a message to a recipient” area.
The adults enjoyed the live music, beer tent, and Nelson’s port-a-pit. Cody worked the beer tent all day and he was the man to see if you needed a cold beverage!
There is also a silent auction. This year, they had a good mix of items including a gift basket from Lucchese’s Italian Restaurant, handmade wreaths, spa services, and ND tickets. I bid on a few massages but I didn’t walk away with anything–oh well, always fun to bid!
Cockopalooza is an event that the community looks forward to. It is so awesome to watch the event grow in size every year and to be able to help a local family!
