Who doesn’t love a 3-day weekend?!
It is the best feeling ever to get to sleep in on a “school day”!
Our Labor Day Weekend was busy but relaxing. We packed in a lot of QT with our family and friends.
On Sunday, we got up pretty darn early and drove to the Michigan City beach with Cody’s mom, Robin, to catch some early morning rays!
Robin packed us a little beach lunch of chicken salad, veggies, hummus, crackers, pita chips, and fruit! It was super light and refreshing! I am a sucker for hummus and Stacy’s Pita Chips. Can’t. Say. No.! She made her chicken salad with half plain Greek yogurt and half mayo–a trick I will have to remember!
Sunday afternoon, we went over to my brother and sister-in-law, Aaron and Aimee’s, house for a cookout. Here is a pic of them below, with our niece, Hannah, photo bombing!
Cody’s sister, Sara, and her husband, Steve, were also there!
Below is a pic of all the kids. Addison (far left), Gavin (back left), and Hannah (far right) are Aaron and Aimee’s kids and Bella (middle left) and Emma (middle right) are Sara and Steve’s. They are the greatest group of kids and we always have a lot of fun with them. At some point, when we have our own, they will have some great older cousins to look up to!
Love this picture of Cody, Robin, and Cody’s Grandma, Phyllis. Phyllis is 91 and still sharp as a tack. Her and her husband, Herman (Ham) were classmates and friends with my grandparents! Who would of thought all these years later their grandkids would end up getting married!
Cody’s dad, Jerry, made pulled pork and homemade BBQ sauce. As always, it was finger lickin’ good. Yes, you have to lick every last bit of BBQ off your hands.
There was also 7-layer salad, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, cornbread, veggies, spinach dip, deviled eggs, and fruit.
7-layer salad is one of my favorites! Nobody can make a 7-layer salad quite like Robin! She has it perfected! She is also the queen of baked beans–it is literally her specialty!
Sara made a trifle that was the bomb! She layered brownies, chocolate pudding, and cool whip. It is seriously like heaven.
The slip and slide was the hit of the day with the kids… and with Magic.
After dinner, we had some “Ice Bucket Challenge” shenanigans going on.
It was so nice to be able to relax and hang out with family without having to rush to get back home or to another function.
Today, we made up for the sleep lost on Sunday and slept in a little bit. Then, we went to our friends, Erik and Christi’s, house for a cookout!
They recently put in a pool so we all took advantage of the warm water and either swam or dangled our legs in. Props to Erik for keepin’ that baby nice and warm!
Erik and Christi have a 2-year old daughter, Brynn, and a 3-month old son, Jordan. Ben and Katy have a 2-week old, Taylor Jean. I love this pic of Ben and Taylor–so adorable!
They made grilled pork loin sandwiches. It is one of Christi’s mom’s recipes and it was awesome! The marinade for the pork is made with soy sauce, ketchup, and some other ingredients that I didn’t catch (oops!). I need to get the recipe from her and share it with you all because it was deeeeelish!
Our friends, Jake and Kaylee, just got married last week! Yay to the Hoeger’s! I was a bridesmaid in their wedding and Cody was co-best man. It was such a fun wedding–the DJ was awesome! There were so many great old-school rap songs from back in the day! I think we all danced for 3 hours straight!
Here are a few pics from the day of the wedding of us girls getting ready! I LOVE this one of Kaylee getting her makeup done! SO PRETTY!
Kaylee picked up all of us girls silk robes! They were so cute and comfy! Liz and Cate…
Lauren and Brigette….
KJ and Morgan…
Christi and I…
Labor Day was the perfecting ending to a wonderfully busy summer! Next weekend, one of my best college friends, Kara, is getting married and I am sure that wedding will not disappoint!
Stay tuned….
